About The Old Warlock

This site hopes to pass on some of the knowledge (and opinions) amassed by old and new gamers over the years. Here you’ll find RPG gaming suggestions and ideas, reviews of new board games we like as well as old board games we used to like. The sky’s the limit and if you find an idea here that sticks, use it. If you disagree with something here, tell us why or, better yet, send us suggestions of your own. What you see might be a bit quirky, or might sometimes be done with tongue in cheek. Above all else, we hope you find something here to help you get more fun out of gaming or maybe just your day. That’s what it’s all about, right?

Who’s Who

Jim

Jim has been doing the RPG thing for a long time. Okay, the whole gaming thing actually. He first started played Dungeons and Dragons in 1978 and, since then, has played a slew of different RPGs. (Anyone remember Boot Hill and Gamma World?) Jim recently realized just how many old and new RPGers are out there. Some have been playing for decades and some have come back to it after a long absence. Some are just getting started. Anyway, he thought it might be fun to create some content for other people with the same interests. Like so many of those “in the game” for a long time, he’s adapted rules from one game to another, developed “house rules” to streamline playing, and is always looking for new ideas from other players. His interests are pretty wide-ranging so you never now what he’s going to be posting on this site.

Alex

A longtime fan of board games, Alex first started playing Dungeons Dragons around the age of six with his father, Jim. His love of the game and many others like it only increased through the years. The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and video games like the Elder Scrolls series help to fuel his imagination and his desire to play RPGs and Board Games. Alex complements his father’s Dungeon Mastering ability with a preference for playing as a character, a skill he strives to improve upon every time he plays. His hatred for badly written board games is secret to none, and he is more than willing to point that out on camera. His favorite movie is The Godfather, and he hates Burger King almost as much as Betrayal at the House on the Hill.

Zachary

You’ll rarely see Zachary on camera or contributing blog content. He’s content to do the video and editing work for The Old Warlock. His love for games is just as strong as Alex and Jim’s, but his focus has turned to video games. Building computers to allow faster gaming has given Zachary a strong technical background. His love of video creation goes back years.

Frank

Who is Frank? No one’s sure. Showing up on the doorstep with only a sword and shield, Frank is a man out of time who’s looking to fit into the modern world he finds himself in, but he’s not quite sure how to do that. He helps around The Old Warlock office/basement as much as he can, appearing in many videos including some that document his new life.
